That should serve as an introduction to this tree. Shortly after first publishing this tree, I heard from a Fox descendant who had some suggestions and corrections. As a result, the tree has already been updated.

Having published many family trees by now (see the Home Page for Families), I will highlight in green the surnames of families that have published trees so far. (I am not adding the links for fear it might overwhelm my website.) However, there is no guarantee that the person whose name is highlighted will show up on my published tree. Please remember that children of daughters will be listed, but not grandchildren.

I have a lot of loose ends. Also, I doubt I can keep all these trees up to date, so corrections and additions are welcome. In fact, this tree has several notes in italics, thanks to input from some Heath descendants.

* John Heath: There are several early John Heaths in or near New Jersey whose parentage is unknown.

1) John Heath, born c.1650, wife Mary died 1694, daughter Mary (c.1690-1694) Philadelphia Friends Meeting.

2) John Heath born c.1700, married Hannah Buckingham (c.1705-1778), lived in New Castle, Delaware where he died in 1748. Nor do I know if the Hannah Buckingham who married John Heath of Delaware was related to the Hannah Buckingham (c.1657-after 1744) who married Andrew Heath, Sr. of Hopewell Twp.

* Magdalene Engers: Note must be taken here to explain the family of Magdalena Engers Heath. A Heath descendant, Chester Bowling, has come across an explanation for her origins that also shows us that the Heaths had contact with Pennsylvania families, even though most of their property was located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, on the other side of the river. A deed of Dec. 7, 1748 concerns the conveyance of 118+ acres in Chester County, Pennsylvania by Jacob and Ester Engers to their son-in-law Andrew ‘Hight.’ And in 1751, Andrew and Magdalena Hight conveyed a two-acre lot to the trustees of the Coventry Mennonite Church, one of whom was Jacob Engers. The History of the Mennonites of Franconian Conference by J. C. Wenger explains (p.18) that Magdalena Engers was the daughter of Jacob and Esther Engers of Chester County, Pennsylvania.

My only quibble with this is that at the same time that Heath bought property from the Engers, he had acquired land in Hunterdon County which he inherited from his father Andrew in 1745. I hope that a record of Heath’s sale of this farm in Pennsylvania will turn up some day.
