First Generation:
(1) Martin Johnson (1754 – 1828) & Anna Trout (1758 – 1812)
I have very little information on Martin Johnson before his first appearance in Amwell township in 1798 when he purchased a large farm along the Delaware River from John Vancamp. His father was probably Daniel Johnson of Cumberland County, who named son Martin in his will of 1757. Martin Johnson served in some capacity during the Revolution, and may have become acquainted with Amwell Township during that time. This possibility is reinforced by the fact that in 1779 Johnson married Anna Trout, daughter of Amwell landowners George Trout and Hannah Lequear. The Trouts were present in Amwell in the 1750s. Their daughter Anna was the oldest of 11 children.
This tree is, like most of my trees, is somewhat incomplete. This is partly due to families moving out of Hunterdon County. Additions and Corrections are welcome. Please make them in the comments section below.

Nicely done, Marfy, as always, and a real contribution. I would only note that the maiden name of the Lucy Kugler (~1800 – 1847) shown in the Second Generation was Lucy Emley Reading. She had been married to William Kugler (1801 – 1868) prior to William Johnson. My research shows her birthdate as 12 Jan 1803/04. Do you have any information re: descendants of Ephraim and Anna Mary (Opdycke ?) Kugler? I have a collection of postcards sent by their son Ogden W. Kugler to a woman named Suzie Jefferson in the Bronx around 1907-08. I became enamored with his writing and started researching him. He was born in 1888 in Idell, Hunterdon Co., NJ. Kugie, his nickname, later worked as a designer for Fulper Pottery and then Claycraft in CA. He died in Yardley, PA in 1965. Kugie never married, but I believe he had an older sister who did marry, although I do not know her name or the name of her spouse. I wonder if his sister has any descendants. If you have any information about this to share, I would be most appreciative. Thank you.

Pam, I have an Addie Kugler (1873-1909) as a daughter of Ephraim & Anna. She was buried in the Rosemont Cemetery. Her husband was Stacy B. Barcroft (1868-1917), whom she married in 1895. They had a daughter Helen Lucille, who died in 1909, age 8.

Thank you, Marfy. Addie Kugler is probably Ogden W. Kugler’s older sister. Ephraim R. Kugler (1851-1926) and Anna Mary Kugler (1849-1909), his parents, are also buried in Rosemont Cemetery. I don’t know where Ogden W. Kugler was buried. He continues to elude me. A friend told me he checked Rosemont Cemetery for Kugie, and he was not buried there. It does not seem likely that Kugie has any living relatives, unless there were other older nieces or nephews. How sad: his mother, his sister, and his niece all died in 1909. Regarding Lucy Emley Reading and her marriage to William Kugler. You mention you think she was also married to a Johnson and I’m curious why you think that. I do not have a death date for Willliam Kugler. Also do you know more about any children they may have had. I have an Anna Tacy Kuglar who married into my family, and a possible Lucy E. Kugler who married another branch of my family. Would be intereted in hearing from you. Thank you!

I would also like to know when this marriage of Wm Johnson & Lucy Kugler happened. Johnson was for many year married to Urania Sergeant (1788-1872), while Lucy only lived from 1803 to 1847. All of Johnson’s children are attributed to Urania, not to Lucy. Please explain.

Does anyone know the parents of of Elias Johnson (husband of Dutila Gano). I do have their children & Dutilla’s ancestry.
I have checked both Johnson Trees w/ no luck! Plenty of Elias’, but not right one!
The Jacob Johnson Tree are ancestors of Mary Johnson, wife of Samuel Lair. These are ancestors of My husband’s grandmother Amy Elizabeth “Lizzie” Lair, wife of Gardiner Johnson Snyder. They both have Snyder , Johnson, Lair & Hann direct ancestors, but not the same ones. So complicated! When I get to my records, I will list dates, places & sources for everyone.
