The first of the Lake family to arrive in America was John Lake and wife Ann Spicer, who came from Hertfordshire to Gravesend, New York. John Lake died there in 1696, wife Ann died about 1709. I have very little information about this first family. The had 8 children, as seen below, stayed mostly in New York. Son John Lake, Jr. and wife Neeltje came to New Jersey.
First Generation:
(1) Thomas Lake (c.1680 – 1765) & Jannetje/Jane Stryker (1679 – after 1765)
Thomas Lake, son of John Lake & Neeltje Claessen, married Jannetje Stryke, daughter of Garret Stryker and Wuntje Boomgard, in Kings County, New York, on June 1, 1709. The couple moved to Hunterdon County about 1725. They acquired a property of about 102.5 acres in Amwell Township.
In the late 1720s, Thomas Lake made many appearances in the Court of Common Pleas. He was listed as a Freeholder in Amwell Township in 1737, and in 1738 became a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing Hunterdon County. In 1750 he served on the Board of Chosen Freeholders for Hunterdon County.

Hunterdon Lakes
Note: My first version of this tree began with the 17th century immigrants, John Lake & Ann Spicer. I later decided to stick with the Hunterdon County branch of the family but decided to leave this earlier one in place.

Jacob Lake (born 1803) was my great-great-great grandfather. I have additional information regarding that branch of the Lake family if anyone is interested.

Jessica – Lakes are in my family tree and I am trying to figure it out. Some how related through Dilts or Sutphin. I have an old photo dated 1905 saying “Grandpa Lake” Not sure if it is Jacob though. Going to the cemetery to confirm some things. Do you know anything relating to the Leonards?

I have Judith Lake b. Abt 1746 married to Silas Mosher. Where can I find more information about her ancestors?

It depends on where Judith and Silas lived. I know of no Judith Lake among the Hunterdon County Lakes. If you know where she lived, I would contact the local historical society for advice.
