The Thatcher Family was prominent in both Amwell and Kingwood Townships in the 18th century. They were also very prolific! They keep showing up in other family trees, so published the Thatchers is really way overdue. And you will see that this tree just goes on and on!
As is my usual practice, children of daughters are listed but not grandchildren. Surnames of spouses whose family trees have been published here are highlighted in green. Any additions or corrections are welcome, either in the comments section below or by email.
The earliest Thatcher in my records is Bartholomew Thatcher (1670 – 1771) and wife Elizabeth Taylor (1684 – 1771). Bartholomew Thatcher was born in Berkshire, England. His wife Elizabeth may have been also. The first we know of them is in 1682 when they were living in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Hello – I found this family tree very interesting as I am a descendant of the Thatcher family. My line goes through William Thatcher (2.7) and Margaret Taylor and their son Nathaniel (3.5). I do not see much information about Nathaniel’s line published. Is this because the information is not available? I’d be curious to share information if you are interested. Thank you.

Hi Faith, The reason I listed Nathaniel as a son of William & Margaret Thatcher is that he was identified as the brother of Aaron Thatcher when he sold Aaron his property in Kingwood Township in 1810. The next year he was living in Bucks County, PA when he and Peter Fox sold land to Bartholomew Thatcher. Apparently he held on to some Kingwood property because his estate was recorded in NJ, not PA. He died without a will in 1826, leaving a wife “Lorany” or “Lovany.” I have not researched his family at all, probably because they lived in Kingwood and was too busy with the Amwell Thatchers. But looking at my notes now, I see I have Nathaniel’s wife and children listed but not connected with him. I will fix that and amend the tree. Thanks.
Marfy: Thanks for all you have done with my Hunterdon Thatchers. I want to bring up another line you haven’t placed here- mine. Thanks in large part to Mr. Deats I have traced my lineage back to a Jesse Thatcher (about 1781-1849), who married Elizabeth Nitzer and is buried in the Old Yard in Lebanon. All information about him stops here.
I have circumstantial evidence that Jesse is the result of a roll in the hay between Joseph Thatcher and Rachel Van Campen, daughter of John. There is a bastardy case from this time, Rachel vs. John involving an unnamed minor. And Jesse and Elizabeth’s first child was named John Van Campen Thatcher. That’s all I got. No death record for Jesse, no birth record.
Anyway, I know that you don’t go digging around for people to solve brick walls, but if you happen to run into a Jesse, and one that didn’t run off to Ohio, from the late 1700’s, you know where to find me. I’ve provided a link below to what I know about my Thatcher lineage for your curiosity.
