When listing members of the Fox family living in Hunterdon County, it is important to distinguish between the English Fox family and the German one. Let us start with the more famous English family.

It is interesting to know that relatives of the original Quaker, George Fox of England, settled in Hunterdon County. However, they were not direct descendants. The Hunterdon English Fox family came from George Fox’s brother John Fox and his wife Ann Chambers.

(1) Christopher Fox (c.1600 – c.1658) & Mary Lago
|     (2) John Fox (1626 – 1718) & Ann Chambers (c.1630 – 1706)
|     |     (3) George Fox (1662 – after 1721) & 2d wife Jane Palmer
|     |     |     (4) George Fox (1700-1754) & Mary Wolverton (1702 – 1769)
|     |     |     (4) Mary Fox (c.1702 – after 1748) & Roger Wolverton (1700 – 1748)

The third generation, George Fox and Jane Palmer, came to Amwell Township with two of their children, George and Mary. In 1719, George Fox bought a large farm from Charles Wolverton in Amwell Township. His children, George and Mary, married into the Wolverton family. The family of George Fox iii and Mary Wolverton is given here. For descendants of Mary Fox Wolverton, see the Wolverton Family Tree.
