This tree has been compiled to accompany my article on the Anderson tavern at Cherryville (“James Anderson’s Tavern”). It seems to have more holes than my usual trees. I had hoped to publish another Anderson Tree in conjunction with this one, for an entirely different Anderson family—the one connected with John Anderson, who ran a tavern near Ringoes (“Anderson’s Tavern”). But that one has even more holes in it and is not ready for publication.
As usual, I have some doubts about this tree and will happily welcome additions and corrections. Unfortunately, comments are no longer possible on this website. (1) William Anderson (c.1705 – 1789) & Jannett Beset? (c.1705 – after 1786)
This couple was present in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County as early as 1741, when William Anderson was listed as a freeholder eligible for jury duty. William wrote his will on May 3, 1786, naming wife Jannett, son James and daughters Anne Higgins and Elizabeth Stout. He also named daughters Sarah and Mary, the latter of whom had recently died. He named his grandsons John Scott Anderson and Jacob Anderson and granddaughter Jane Anderson without naming their parents. None of the children or grandchildren were named executors of his will.
9/15/2022, Addendum: An Anderson descendant recently asked where I got the idea that Jannett’s maiden name was Best, and much to my chagrin, I could not give him a good answer. So, it gets a ?
